As of October 1, 2021, Missouri’s motor fuel tax rate increased to 19.5 cents per gallon. You may be eligible to receive a refund of the 2.5 cents tax increase you pay on Missouri motor fuel if:

  1. Your vehicle weighs less than 26,000 pounds
  2. Your vehicle for highway use
  3. You purchased fuel in Missouri on or after Oct. 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022 (refund will be 5 cents 7/1/22-6/30/23, 7.5 cents 7/1/23-6/30/24 10 cents 7/1/24-6/30/25 and 12.5 cents 7/1/25-6/30/26

You will need the following items to claim the refund:

  1. For each vehicle identification number, you will need to show the number of gasoline or diesel gallons purchased
  2. For each purchase, you will need the type of fuel (gasoline, clear diesel or dyed diesel), vehicle identification number, year make/model, date of purchase, seller name, seller address, city, state, zip and exact gallons purchased
