As of October 1, 2021, Missouri’s motor fuel tax rate increased to 19.5 cents per gallon. You may be eligible to receive a refund of the 2.5 cents tax increase you pay on Missouri motor fuel if:
- Your vehicle weighs less than 26,000 pounds
- Your vehicle for highway use
- You purchased fuel in Missouri on or after Oct. 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022 (refund will be 5 cents 7/1/22-6/30/23, 7.5 cents 7/1/23-6/30/24 10 cents 7/1/24-6/30/25 and 12.5 cents 7/1/25-6/30/26
You will need the following items to claim the refund:
- For each vehicle identification number, you will need to show the number of gasoline or diesel gallons purchased
- For each purchase, you will need the type of fuel (gasoline, clear diesel or dyed diesel), vehicle identification number, year make/model, date of purchase, seller name, seller address, city, state, zip and exact gallons purchased
